Jace Standish, B.S.F; M.Sc. – Soils and Terrain Specialist

Jace Standish is a professional agrologist and holds a B.S.F. degree and a M.Sc. (Soil Science) from the University of British Columbia.  He teaches courses in Plant Identification and Ecosystem Classification and is a former Program Head for Ecological Restoration at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.  He has also taught courses in soils, aerial photo interpretation and Environmental Assessments. 

Jace has worked in environmental consulting for over 35 years with several environmental consulting companies including Talisman Land Resource Consultants, Norecol Environmental Consultants, Westland Resource Group, SEAFOR, Jacques Whitford Ltd., Robertson Environmental Services, EBA Engineering Consultants, Stantec and Rescan Environmental Services . 

Although much of his work has been in British Columbia he has also worked in Alberta, the Yukon Territory, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Alberta, Ontario, New Hampshire, Hawaii, California, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Guyana and the Dominican Republic.

Jace has worked in the fields of terrestrial ecosystem mapping and classification; vegetation inventory and mapping; land reclamation and soil surveys. He has published papers on mining reclamation, biomass, soil development, soil degradation, and ecological classification.  He was Education Coordinator for the Canada-Guyana Interim Forestry Project, Project Leader for BCIT’s Yew Tree Project. He recently carried out an analysis of terrestrial ecosystems for a large area in the Kitikmeot region of western Nunavut.
